Snips and Snails

Ya know, I don’t have this issue because I actually don’t have any readers compared to this blog. BUT I can relate. I do sometimes wonder about the dangers of the internet, but I can’t let it run the way I want to do things. Personally I feel than cyberspace is really no more dangerous that real life. We all want to protect our children from the core of our being, but we can’t let that stop us from experiencing life with them. We need to start teaching them about the world and the dangers. There are dangers EVERYWHERE, there is no law stopping someone from taking a photo of your child at a public park, or walking down the street, or taking a picture from the internet.

As Mothers, as parents, every time we walk outside the house with our children we walk with our heart outside our body. We struggle with the fear throughout every. single. moment. that our child is in danger. I check my kids when they sleep, I still check on my 6 year old a couple of times a night. I worry when we drive, when we swim. I worry when my 6 year old is at school without me for 5 hours a day. I worry when he is at his friends house, when he is playing on the playground, when he is riding his bike. I worry when he plays computer games. And I do worry when I put his picture on the internet. But the internet is and will continue to be a huge part of our lives, and our futures. We need to educate our kids on it, the same way we need to educate them on water safety, or road safety.

I dont know the answer. My 6 year old asked me yesterday if he could put his pictures on the internet, so I’m thinking about opening him up a blog for him to post his drawings and stories, ridiculous yes? But Imagine what the interweb will be like when he is our age? Hopefully by then the internet will be a safer place.

Oh wow! I have been so touched by all of the sweet notes and comments I have received from you all about my blog. I really had no idea how much people have enjoyed reading it and how I have helped out other families with advice about products, CPR, ACE’s story about how he was hospitalized and so…
